Jiangxi University of Water Resources and Electric Power

Jiangxi University of Water Resources and Electric Power (JUWP), founded in 1958, is a public university located in Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi Province in the east central of China. JUWP covers a land area of 1.30 million square meters and owns Yaohu Campus and Pengjiaqiao Campus. With its beautiful scenery, pleasant environment, excellent educational and teaching resources, JUWP is also the first campus-based provincial water conservancy scenic spot in China.

With distinctive characteristics in the discipline of water conservancy and electric power, JUWP specialises in multidisciplinary education of engineering, management, science, agriculture, liberal arts, economics, fine arts etc. With 20,464 full-time students, including 1,293 graduate students and dozens of international students, and more than 1,600 staff members including over 100 national and provincial level telents, JUWP proudly offers 57 undergraduate programmes and 17 postgraduate programmes which are highly recognized by students and employers. The university has appointed Nobel laureate Eric S. Maskin from IAS, the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, United States, as an honorary professor, and 4 scholars have been included in the 2024 “World’s Top 2% Scientists List”.

Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation and Environmental Design are national-level first-class majors. The Engineering is listed into the ESI (Essential Science Indicators) top 1%, while Computer Science, Agricultural Sciences, and Environmental Science and Ecology are ESI potential disciplines.

The university has actively integrated into the Zhe-Gan-Yue Grand Canal Project and participated in the Ultra-High Voltage Power Transmission Project in Jiangxi. It conducts scientific research and promotes technological achievements in fields including water infrastructure safety, ecological water conservancy, smart water management, and smart grids. JUWP has been devoted to the collaboration with local government, universities including Shanghai University, Hohai University, research institutions including China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, and enterprises including China Gezhouba Group and China Anneng Construction Group. Diversified national and provincial prizes prove the scientific contributions JUWP has been making for the local and national development.

JUWP has established close partnerships with a dozen renowned overseas institutions, including the University of the Highlands and Islands and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in the United Kingdom; Saint Louis University in the United States; Saxion University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands; as well as universities in countries including Hungary, South Korea, and Japan. We have launched two Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate education programs: Civil Engineering (China-Netherlands) and Electrical Engineering and Automation (China-South Korea), which integrate high-quality resources from both sides to cultivate talent jointly. Our international environment has attracted foreign experts and faculty members, and a group of international undergraduate and graduate students from the Belt and Road countries. Meanwhile, our faculty actively engages in research collaboration and academic exchanges with overseas partners such as Griffith University in Australia. Outstanding students also have the opportunity each year to study at world-renowned institutions, including the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
